| Our first program on the Carolina Sandhills
National Wildlife Refuge was a success! Look for our second and third programs in the
near future. In our second program, we go to the South Carolina upstate Mountain Bridge
Wilderness Area which includes Caesar's Head and
Jones Gap state parks. Backpacking our way through the trails, we will view some of
the southeast's largest waterfalls. How do you hike up such steep slopes without falling?
Why is it colder in the mountains? What creatures live in these areas?
For program three, we will be visiting some wetlands and coastal area habitats such as Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens. Here we will focus on alligators,
the waterfowl community and the change in these natural areas over time. Learn how both
birds and gators survive in their environment given their body structure and function.
Physiologic processes such as vision, hearing and digestion will be included. Which beaks
are best for what food? How wide can a gator open its jaws? CHOMP! CHOMP!
