CSWR is the first Trail Guides program

This website area is dedicated to learning things about our first Trail Guides site - the Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge also known as the CSWR. Much of the stuff you will see comes from the video that you already have watched. There will be some new stuff too.

Just follow the numbers. You should do each one. The order doesn't really matter but it may help for you to keep track of things if you go from one to the next.

1. What is a refuge?

2. Figure out the distance from the CSWR to Hartsville based on our travel speed and time of arrival. This question for Hartsville schools only!

3. How did the ocean help form the sandhills?

4. Show long leaf pine tree loss by century using a table and plotting a bar graph.

5. Who was Teddy Roosevelt?

6. How do trees prevent erosion?

7. Prescribed burning.

8. Ecosystems, environments and habitats.

9. Learn more about the red cockaded woodpecker (RCW). Why are they endangered?

10. What is an artificial nesting cavity? How does this help the RCW?

11. Learn more about the river otter.

12. Pitcher plants - natural carnivores

13. Cues, behavior and survival.
